all the rage

hi there...

three shows i saw recently:

Taylor Mac's solo show, Margaret Cho's Sensuous Woman, and Fuerza Bruta, the new De La Guarda show. All three were fantastic and very much worth going to...I suppose the one thing i was trained to do with my Literature degree in college was to tie things together thematically...and so i will say that these three shows all have a rage to them-- whether it was Taylor flinging words at the Republican father he never knew, who would most assuredly be challenged by the fact his son was a gorgeously dressed drag performer, or Margaret broiling Senator Larry Craig -- explaining what it is that he really wants is cock, cock, cock, or just the dancers in Fuerza Bruta getting shot, flying through paper and rain...

I am holding onto one thin strand of hope that there is a revolutionary spirit somewhere in this country...and also my deep and constant faith in the arts i guess to fuel this spirit...even these shows, which are all very funny, fun, comfortable to watch...all of them still have an anger to them...
